I had a few hours to spare while waiting for some crackle paint to dry (which it didn't do as much as I had hoped for) on the big Necromunda buildings. So I dug out the box of 30 Necromunda/40k Space Rats/Scavvies/Ratskin Renegades/Cultists/Pox Walkers I had converted and basecoated earlier (last year?). They'll be called just Skavies for now. I made them with a huge variety of different weapon/mutation configurations, so they could multitask properly.
As with the Sylvaneth before, I tried to come up with a
simple/fast/fun/good looking enough way of painting these guys, so they
could get on the gaming board ASAP before I got bored of putting dozens
of different layers of dirty weathering on them.
I begun with only one model, but soon took four more in so I didn't have to waste any time waiting for the paints to dry. This was the procedure:
* Basecoat of Pale Grey Blue (most likely).
* Overall wash of dirty grey mixture. I notice this tone varied quite a lot from model to model.
* Off White drybrush with big soft brush.
* Basilicanum Grey (weapons/gear), Nazdreg Yellow (clothes/teeth/eyes) contrast paints.
* Carroburg Crimson (tail & ears) wash.
* Titillating Pink highlights (tail/ears), Necron Compound drubrush (weapons/gear).
* Skeleton Horde contrast paint on all the metal & clothing areas.
* Base sand washed with thinned Stormvermin Fur & drybrushed with Underhive Ash.
* Clothes highlighted with Khaki & Bone White, then shaded again with Nazdreg yellow. Not sure if these extra layers were that important. Kind of liked the simplicity and the yellowness that the clothes had earlier. Should be more subtle about this, or just skip these steps...
* Military Shader some darkest recess, armour/clothes joints and pimples.
* Weapon/gear edges retouched with Necron Compound. Tongue is just Blood for the Blood God.
* Highlight pimples with Poisonous Cloud, eyes/teeth Bone White, skin/rivets Off White.
* Base rims Matt Black, toxic waste pools with Nurgles Rot.
Took only about two hours to paint the first 5 Skavies, so I immediately started work on ten more. They are already half done. Will propably do the rest in two groups of 7 & 8 soon enough. Got mutants, huge dog-rats, shamans and even a space Fimir waiting to get some paint on..
Squeek-squeek!!!
