Poxwalkers WIP

While gathering strength to finish writing & sorting the pics about two Warhammer 40k games from last month, I decided to post a few shorter WIP blog texts about some Death Guard stuff I've done recently.

Last spring I dug up a few older (that I converted in the mid 2000's I think) Chaos fellows, and grouped them together with some more recent Poxwalkers. Did some minor conversions and kitbashes, and basecoated/washed/drybrushed them.

Just chopped things to bits and glue together on even more unnatural poses. The exact number and placement of limbs and heads shouldn't always be taken that seriously. These guys are in pretty good shape though. Really love the old "Empire Halberdier" with Genestealer & Bretonnian archer arms, "Horsehead" with Horror legs & Ork sword arm and the "Tentacles" from old Beast of Nurgle & Chaos Marauder legs.

So after the last summers sudden Sylvaneth mania, the autumnal desire to bash together a horde of Orks, I now had the urge to do some Nurgle & Death Guard related stuff again. I've played with them since the mid 90's, and been slowly adding to the collections. It seems that there's always more room and need for some Poxwalkers, Chaos Cultists, Marauders and Plague Zombies, so it was a perfect time to dust this old unit and give it some colour!

The painting was done really fast (maybe in 8 hours, over the course of a few days). Lots of washes, glazes and drybrushes. The Phoenix Yellow was first carelessly drybrushed and then sloppily applied as highlights with loaded brush a few times, to create a really thick coat of colour. The yellows were then glazed with Casandora Yellow and a thin mix of Fuegan Orange, dirty water, Contrast & Gloss Mediums and little Red Tone & Carroburgh Crimson. Same kind of approach (with the loaded brush higlights) was also used for the pinks (Titillating Pink) and greens (Poisonous Cloud). I think the washes and glazes used here (so Fuegan Orange, Lamenters Yellow, Waywatcher Green & Soft Tone) on the later stages really helped to blend together the different areas (skins, clothes, weapons).
